Retinol is the ingredient in many of the skincare products we carry. Here’s why we love retinol and highly recommend adding retinol to your skincare regimen.
There are three proven ingredients that are proven to improve wrinkles – retinol, hydroxy acids and vitamin C., according to Miami dermatologist Leslie Baumann, MD. “Of the three, retinol works the best.” Retinol also
- Prevents wrinkles
- Prevents acne
- Evens skin pigmentation
- Exfoliates skin to impart a radiant complexion
“Retinol is the only ingredient FDA-approved to treat wrinkles, which means it has been proven to work.”
Today, adding retinol to your daily skincare is easy. It’s advisable to start slowly, with a pea-size amount over moisturizer applied every third night for the first two weeks of adding it. See how your skin adjusts. Then increase, to every other night, and eventually every night. If you skin can not tolerate retinol on its own, you can add moisturizer to make it easier on your skin.
RETINOL TALKS TO YOUR GENES
Retinol “up-regulates” the genes that make collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin and it turns on fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are the skin cells that make collagen. It actually down-regulates the genes that product collagenase (the nasty enzyme that breaks down precious collagen). It does this immediately!
BYE BYE REDNESS
The primary side effects of retinol are redness, itching and flaking. Luckily, these can now be avoided with today’s skincare products. An esthetician or board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist can evaluate your skin and provide the appropriate treatment. (The staff at Abloom Med Spa can recommend the right products for your skin.) Skin sensitivity no longer is a factor in being able to use retinol.
HELLO BEAUTIFUL SKIN
The one skincare ingredient you can almost bet will make your skin look better is retinol. There are so many good things retinol does for your skin.
MANY OPTIONS FOR RETINOL
There are now many options for getting retinol skincare products. We’ve gone through and refined the prescription-level products. In the past, people were reluctant to use retinoids, expecting redness and flaking. These concerns are all but eliminated as the concentration of retinol has been adjusted in products to avoid this side effect.
Why We Love Retinol
With so many great reasons, we recommend retinol for everyone’s anti-aging skincare routine.
