understanding Aging skin

No matter what we do, as we grow older our skin ages. It’s good to know what is happening to your skin.

How Aging Affects our Skin

As we age, like it or not, gravity, the sun and our diet all affect how our skin ages.  Aging skin will show itself as the following:

Development of static wrinkles – these are the wrinkles that show on your skin no matter what you are doing or expressing.

Development of dynamic wrinkles – these are the wrinkles that appear and disappear with facial movements and expressions.

Pigmentation – Mainly the result of sun exposure, we get freckles, sun spots and/or other darkened patches of skin.

Scars – scars are the result of injury or acne. Scars can be pitted, rolling, discolored or have raised borders.

Vascular conditions – when blood vessels are visible at the skin surface, it may be the result of a vascular condition, a constant flush of redness or vascular lesions that appear as tiny blood filled blisters

Loss of Skin Tone – collagen and elastin fibers support our skin structure. Unfortunately as we age we lose this support which results in a loss of skin firmness, sagging and/or the development of cellulite.

Combating Aging Skin

To some people the fight is on, as they age and don’t like the results they see. Luckily there are plenty of treatments and ways to counteract our aging skin. Skin rejuvenation treatments are great options to minimize the signs of aging.

Chemical peels can also help even out skin tone and minimize fine lines. Depending on the type of peel, recovery time can be minimal to 5 days. We offer a variety of chemical peels and the one used is determined by your skin and beauty goals.
