Sun exposure, acne or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. If you want your skin to look smoother, younger and even just more even it might be time to consider a chemical peel. Here at Abloom Med Spa we love peels (here is looking at you Vi Peel), like really love peels. It is an Abloom truth that at any given moment you can walk into our office and it's a typical to see the skin sloughing off one of our staff members, and only days later…voila…skin perfection! So we wanted to share with you some important information on what they are and how they work, so you can see if this is the right treatment for you!
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel, also called chemexfoliation or derma peeling, is one of the least invasive ways to approve the appearance of your skin. Although, chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck, chest, back and hands.
You can improve:
- Acne or Acne Scars
- Age, Sun and liver spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Irregular skin pigmentation
- Rough skin and scaly patches
- Sun-damaged skin
How does a chemical peel work?
Chemical solutions are carefully applied to your skin to improve the texture by removing damaged outer layers. Typical chemicals used in peels can be phenol, trichloroacetic acid, and alphahydroxy acids. Each one has a different purpose. The formula used by your aesthetician will be adjusted to meet your particular needs. Light Chemical Peels are great for subtle improvements at first, but that healthy glow will increase with more treatments. Medium chemical peels leave your skin noticeably smoother and fresher looking after just one treatment. Deep chemical peels can often have the most dramatic results, but recovery takes the longest.
So, is a chemical peel right for me?
Now that you know what a facial chemical peel can do for your skin, it's important to understand what they cannot do, such as:
- Treat deep facial lines
- Tighten loose or sagging skin
- Stimulate collagen production
- Remove broken capillaries
- Change pore size
- Remove deep scars
However, we do offer other treatments that can help with these types of problems, such as the injectables botox and juvederm for deep facial lines, and lasers for skin tightening.
You may not be a good candidate for chemical peeling if you have:
- A history of skin scarring
- Abnormal Pigmentation
- Facial warts
- Used certain acne treatments with the last year
Consult an Abloom skin care expert to find out if you are a candidate and the best treatment options.
How much will a chemical peel cost?
Cost is always a consideration in elective procedures or treatment. The cost for a chemical peel may vary based on the type of chemical peel performed, and time and effort the procedure or treatment requires. Your satisfaction involves more than a fee. At Abloom our skin care experts have numerous years of experience and have performed 1000's of treatments. When choosing a Med Spa for a chemical peel, remember that its staff experience and your comfort with them is just as important as the final cost of the procedure.
What to Expect During a Chemical Peel?
During a chemical peel, most patients experience a burning sensation that lasts about 5 to 1o minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. Cool compresses may be applied to help alleviate this stinging.
What to Expect After a Chemical Peel?
Depending on the type of chemical peel and its strength, a reaction similar to sunburn could occur following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness, followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four week intervals until the desired clinical effect is achieved.
You will work with your aesthetician to determine the depth of your peel. This joint decision can vary depending upon the condition of your skin and the objectives of the treatment.
It is important to avoid exposure to sun after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile. You will be set up with follow up care to help you through the process.
